EMERYVILLE, Calif., January 9, 2019 - Vituity is proud to announce that Scott Zeller MD, Vituity’s Vice President of Acute Psychiatry, has been elected Chair of the Coalition on Psychiatric Emergencies (CPE), an Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF)-sponsored organization.

The CPE is comprised of national leaders in emergency medicine, behavioral health, and patient advocacy who are focused on improving the treatment of psychiatric emergencies for patients and emergency providers. The Coalition seeks to improve patient care for psychiatric/behavioral emergencies through collaboration, education, research and advocacy.

In his role as Chair, Dr. Zeller will be responsible for leading the work of the CPE in these key areas, while engaging with new partners and deepening existing relationships. He will be entrusted with setting the strategic direction for the group as it continues to grow and develop.

“I am honored to be selected as Chair of this prestigious group of healthcare leaders”, says Dr. Zeller. “The acute care needs of patients in behavioral crisis must be better addressed across our nation’s health systems. The CPE is an instrumental and diverse team of influential stakeholders that is moving the dial for this underserved patient population.”

Member organizations of the CPE include the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Psychiatric Association, the Emergency Nurses Association, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists, the Bipolar and Depression Support Alliance, the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry, the National Council for Behavioral Health, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and numerous other prominent groups.

For nearly 50 years, Vituity has been developing best practices to ensure hospitals are able to care for patients effectively. In 2018, Vituity launched an integrated approach to behavioral healthcare that brings together psychiatric and emergency care delivery through formalized education and training. Designed by Vituity physicians, this approach unites front-line physicians and clinical support staff with existing ED teams to optimize workflows and increase staff engagement while improving the quality of care for all patients in the ED.
